Quality of Life

A great place to live, work and play!

The City of Kawartha Lakes is an active and flourishing community where parks, recreation and culture services are an essential component of the City's commitment to offering a preferred place to live, visit, work, and play.

The City's Parks, Recreation and Culture services deliver benefits that enhance the quality of life in Kawartha Lakes and reflect the unique interests of local communities and the diverse range of needs and lifestyles. With the active and informed involvement of the community, the municipality and other public and private interests, we provide services that contribute to a healthy community, a vibrant culture, a strong economy and sustainable environment.

The City also has many environmental efforts in place, with high stakeholder engagement, utilizing an "Environment First" principle as the basis for all community planning decisions. The 250 Lakes and the Trent-Severn Canal system are notable features of the landscape contributing to the flavour of everyday life.

In 2009, the City was awarded official status as a safe place to live through Safe Communities Canada.

Our close proximity to the Greater Toronto Area makes Kawartha Lakes a preferred vacation destination and day trip route for visitors to experience a better quality of life. Many visitors relocate to our community for that better quality of life and to enjoy everything that the great Ontario outdoors has to offer only 90 minutes northeast of downtown Toronto.
