Environmental Incentive Programs

The City of Kawartha Lakes is proud to have adopted the first ever Green Hub Community Improvement Plan (CIP) in Ontario. 

Within the plan, the City of Kawartha Lakes  has developed strategies and programs available to eligible property owners that engage in environmentally significant activities. The Green Hub programs include:

  • Green Development Tax Increment-Equivalent Grant (TIEG) Program, which offers grants to applicants whose property taxes have increased as a result of greening their properties. This grant covers up to 90% of the increase with 10% decrease every year after to a maximum of ten years. 
  • Green Employment Development Charge Exemption/ Reduction Program, which offers owners of industrial green employment uses within the CIPA an exemption or reduction in charges associated with redeveloping or developing their industries. 
  • Brownfield Tax Assistance Program, which encourages the remediation and rehabilitation of brownfield sites by providing tax assistance at the beginning of the cleanup process.
  • Green Innovation Grant Program, which offers grants to eligible applications for the completion of studies that are intended to determine the feasibility of or to support a proposed green employment use, green/energy efficient building retrofit or development project, or renewable energy project.  
  • Green Recognition Program, which recognizes successful industry leaders who have established green employment uses and/or have demonstrated a commitment to green/ energy efficient building standards.
  • Green Design Guidelines, which identifies city wide guidelines for green buildings and energy efficient designs.  Incentives are available for property owners that invest in improvements to their facilities.
